🍁 France-Quebec Journey

Born in 1960 in Doubs, Jean-Luc Thiévent has built a unique musical career between France and Quebec. Fingerstyle guitarist, sound creator and lighting designer, he embodies creative spirit and artistic adaptability.

🇫🇷 Beginnings in France (1973-1984)

🎸 1973 - First Approach

Born in 1960 in Doubs, France, it was in 1973 that Jean-Luc THIÉVENT studied guitar.

🤝 1976 - Meeting Marcel Dadi

He met Marcel Dadi and then began working on finger picking. He used this technique to accompany himself in song performances.

🎵 1980s - European Career

He pursued a most interesting singer-songwriter career in Europe in the 80s.

🔊 1981 - Technical Training

JLT met François Lovato, Professor at the technological institute of Belfort in various disciplines including his favorite "acoustics".

François transmitted to Jean-Luc a whole passion for sound, vibrations, sound production...

🎤 1984 - First Recording

JLT recorded his own compositions in François Lovato's studio and engaged in various musical creation experiments.

🎭 Shows and Tours (1990)

Jean-Luc Thiévent

His last two concerts in France were high in sound and color. Since 1985, JLT worked with Jean-Albert Gartner, sound engineer at the time for Charlélie Couture and several equally prestigious technicians succeeded in lighting.

🎸 Chambéry Show

JLT's penultimate show in France took place in Chambéry (Savoie), with a new band for this occasion, the Jazz-Rock group "Grand Angle de Lille" under the direction of Olivier Delgut.

🏟️ Paris Zenith

Following this show, JLT moved to Paris. He then met his cousin who played with a suburban rock band. Scheduled for St. Matos, JLT performed at the Zenith.

🎼 Collaboration with Francis Laporte

It was in Paris that JLT met singer-songwriter Francis Laporte. They performed as a Duo for several years. Francis recorded an album with François Lovato with JL.

🍁 Career in Quebec (1992-present)

🍁 1992 - Arrival in Quebec

JLT arrived in Quebec. He met Jean-Guy Deraspe, singer-songwriter from the Magdalen Islands. He produced the album "mouvance" for him in France and "Légendes" in Quebec.

💡 1993 - Lighting Designer

He worked with Daniel Lavoie as designer and lighting technician. That same year he met Karen Young. With Karen he designed the lighting for shows for about ten years.

🏆 1994 - Song Festival

He was Winner singer-songwriter-performer at the Petite-Vallée Song Festival in 94. He also received the award-winning song prize. Following this success, JL was invited to various festivals and Radio-Canada shows.

🎭 1996 - Career Change

JL stopped singing in 1996, to focus on lighting and sound. However, he continued making music as a guitarist and presented a tribute show to singer Graeme Allwright.

🎭 Educational Shows

📚 Language Immersion

For 8 years, he gave about 250 shows for young Ontario students who came to Quebec for French language immersion. These shows highlighted Quebec tales and legends. JL also performed a few shows in Ontario schools.

🎵 Prestigious collaboration: He met Gilles Vigneault for whom he designed lighting for three years.

🌱 Recent Projects

🌍 Environmental Awareness

Sensitive to the environment, he met astrophysicist Hubert Reeves twice and returned somewhat to writing, launching a project bringing together Norman Lachapelle (bass), Réjean Bouchard (guitar), Bruno Fecteau (piano) and Denis Mailloux (drums).

🥁 Musical Accompaniment

He accompanied singer Jamil on percussion and presented an excerpt from his finger picking guitar show as opening act. About 170 performances in three years.

🎵 New CD (2005)

On February 19, 2005, he launched his new show and new CD, at Petit Medley in Montreal with the complicity of Bassist Norman Lachapelle. A special moment, marking 30 years of guitar.

🎧 Production (2007)

Jean-Luc has just finished producing Éric Landry's album from Natashquan. Release scheduled for July 23, 07.

A new solo album is expected for fall 2007.
