Patrice Jania

Patrice Jania, self-taught guitarist and educator

🌱 Passionate Self-Taught Guitarist

Patrice Jania embodies the pure passion for acoustic guitar. A determined autodidact, he developed his own technique by learning songs "by ear" and has become a recognized advocate for instrumental music in Ardèche, contributing to expanding the modern guitar repertoire through his numerous educational works.

🌱 The Beginnings

🎯 A Beginning by Chance

Patrice Jania starts guitar at 14 years old, by chance, because someone lends him an instrument deemed too difficult. His father soon after offers him a study guitar, steel strings, hard to play, but few people in the family make music.

Despite his slightly sore fingers, Patrice insists and buys a guitar LP that his record dealer recommends. Two months later he plays all the tracks, and he thus reviews all the records that catch his ears, learning the tunes "by ear", teaching himself sometimes difficult pieces, but which gradually forged his technique and developed his knowledge.

🎓 Training and Career

🎯 Decisive Turning Point

Patrice continues his studies, and one day, his music teacher gives him a decisive turning point by offering him a real study guitar, classical and well-adjusted. He will therefore play guitar often, for pleasure and gratitude, on graduation day, and subsequently alongside his university path, which made him an English teacher, which he taught for three years, in Strasbourg.

As a tablature reader, it will take some time to associate his knowledge of music theory and harmony with the instrument. Here too, he takes the step by studying books, transposing classical scores into tablatures, and vice versa. Practice is thoughtful and ears are wide open.

🎼 Musical Training

From tablature reader to harmony master: Patrice develops a thoughtful approach to guitar, combining musical intuition and deep theoretical knowledge.

🏔️ Return to Ardèche and Musical Career

🏡 1990: Settling in Ardèche

In 1990, music brings him back to Ardèche, which he has not left since. He gives lessons and some concerts. He then undertakes to follow a complete musical training "to avoid saying anything to his students".

📚 Educational Publications

He subsequently writes a large number of works in music theory and tablature, sometimes with CD, to contribute to expanding the modern guitar repertoire.

🎸 Acoustic Guitar Advocate

He is now one of the advocates of acoustic guitar and the development of instrumental music in his region.
